Encore Bank‘s office and teller space in downtown Fayetteville was designed to transform the traditional banking experience by crafting an open, approachable environment. The goal was to foster a more engaging and personable interaction between clients and employees. The space features an inviting lounge and reception area, using modern design elements to create a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.

The design integrates frameless glass, warm wood tones, industrial metal, and an exposed ceiling structure in areas painted blue as a nod to the bank’s branding. These elements seamlessly blend the building’s historical architecture with contemporary aesthetics, creating a visually striking balance of old and new.

The atmosphere is designed to be highly versatile, transitioning smoothly from a productive, functional workspace to a social hub for game-day gatherings. The thoughtful design encourages collaboration and communication while also providing a space for relaxation and engagement in a more informal setting.

To accommodate the bank’s growth, the design expanded into two leased spaces on different floors of the iconic EJ Ball building—a former restaurant on the main floor and a former yoga studio in the basement. The need for an interior staircase to connect these levels became a unique design opportunity. The staircase not only unites the spaces but also allows natural light deeper into the basement, illuminating work areas that would otherwise be dark. This feature enhances the flow between floors, making the entire space feel cohesive and connected.

In the basement, the low structural height and the presence of large HVAC equipment that serves other building tenants posed a significant design challenge. To overcome this, light paint was applied to the ceilings and walls, creating a brighter, more open feeling. To add warmth and texture, layered wood slat ceiling clouds were incorporated to define communal areas, such as break spaces, bringing energy and character into the dimly lit space.

A cove light washes the existing concrete foundation walls, serving as a backdrop to the offices. This subtle lighting highlights the raw beauty of the building’s structure, emphasizing the charm of adaptive reuse projects. By showcasing these exposed elements, the design tells a story of transformation—where history meets modern functionality, creating a dynamic and comfortable environment for both staff and clients.
