Bentonville Brownstones | Bentonville, AR

The Trailhead Townhomes in downtown Bentonville is a project brought to life after being left only partially constructed for several years by the previous owners. The design works within the constraints of the existing unit layouts while entirely re-imagining the exterior facade design and new interior finishes.

The gable roof structure was completely removed and, in its place, a flat roof with parapet was constructed providing a much more modern aesthetic. Exterior materials were stripped and replaced with a thermally modified wood rainscreen system. The vertical wood application creates clean-line monolithic forms that blend with the surrounding 7 acre natural preserve, Compton Gardens and Arboretum.

Large storefront with metal spandrel panels juxtaposed with the wood cladding creates a clear line between units, while also bringing in light and creating views out over nature and trail. Powder-coated metal screens at the entryways and a cantilevered balcony over the garages define outdoor spaces for each unit. The interior finish details were kept minimal and neutral with bright whites and cool grey tones allowing the warmth of the wood floor to shine and the connection to the natural surroundings to be amplified.
